# How to download and use QR Codes in ShortPen

**Short answer:** Open your link in ShortPen, make sure QR Code is enabled, then download it as **SVG** or **PNG** from the success dialog or the link details → **QR preview → Download**.

## Before you start

* You’ve already [created a link](/getting-started/create-first-link) and **enabled** the [QR Code](/link-management/qr-code/qr-creation) for it.
* Avoid changing **domain** or **slug** after printing QR codes. If you do, you must **re-download** and replace printed assets.

## Where you can download the QR in ShortPen

* **Right after creating the link:** the success dialog shows the link and **SVG / PNG** buttons.
* **From the link details page:** select the link, click the **QR** icon → **Preview QR code → Download**.

<Tip>
  **Tip:** If the QR toggle is **OFF** or the link isn’t saved yet, you won’t see download options (the preview won’t scan). Turn QR **ON** and **save** first.
</Tip>

## Which file format to use (SVG vs PNG)

* **SVG**

  Best for **print** (posters, packaging, signage) and **design tools** (Figma, Illustrator, InDesign). Scales perfectly, stays crisp.
* **PNG**

  Good for **presentations, docs, and web**. If you’ll print, choose a sufficiently **high pixel size**.

<Note>
  **Note on branding changes:** Adjusting colors or adding a logo affects **new downloads only**. The encoded **URL** stays the same, so existing prints still scan, re-download if you need visual consistency.

## Embedding your QR code in print and digital

### Print & packaging (recommended: SVG)

1. Download **SVG**.
2. Place it in your layout and **keep the quiet zone** (white margin) intact, don’t crop.
3. Maintain **high contrast** (dark code on a light background).
4. Export your print PDF as usual.

### Presentations, docs, and web images (PNG)

1. Download **PNG**.
2. Insert the image at a comfortable size. Verify it scans from typical viewing distance.
3. For responsive web pages, avoid CSS that distorts the image (keep aspect ratio 1:1).

#### With a centered logo

Upload an **organization logo** or a **custom logo** in the QR settings, preview, then download. Keep legibility first, reduce logo size if scanning suffers.

## Track scans and performance

* View **QR Scans** and related metrics in [Link analytics](/analytics/link-level-analytics/link-level-metrics).
* To track post-scan actions (signups, purchases), [enable tracking events](/link-management/links-settings/enabling-event-tracking) on the link and **install the** [ShortPen Pixel](/key-concepts/pixel-overview). Then analyze conversions.
