# How to edit or disable a ShortPen event

> Edit or pause ShortPen events anytime. Update triggers, rename events, or disable tracking without losing data.

**Short answer:** Open **Events**, pick your event, change its **Name** or **Trigger**, then **Save**. To stop recording new data, toggle the event **Off** to **Pause.** You can **Resume** any time.

## Before you start

* You already [created the event](/getting-started/create-first-event) you want to modify.
* If you expect conversions to be recorded after your changes, ensure the [ShortPen Pixel](/key-concepts/pixel-overview) is installed and the link has [event tracking enabled](/link-management/links-settings/enabling-event-tracking).

## How to edit an event

1. Open **Events** in your workspace sidebar.
2. Select the event you want to update.
3. **Rename (optional):** Give it a clear, consistent name. (This keeps reports tidy.)
4. **Update the trigger**
5. **Save** your changes.

<Note>
  Changes affect **future** tracking only. Analytics are **not retroactive**.
</Note>

## How to disable (pause) an event

1. In **Events**, find the event.
2. Toggle it**off** and confirm **Pause**.

While paused, **no new data is collected** until you **Resume**.

## Notes & best practices

* Shopify’s predefined e-commerce events (e.g., **Add to Cart**, **Purchase**) are **not editable** as custom events in ShortPen. Manage them **inside the ShortPen app in Shopify**, where you can enable/disable each event.
