# How to use date range and segmentation filters in ShortPen

> Use date range and segmentation filters in ShortPen to analyze clicks, conversions, and traffic sources with precision.

**Short answer:** open a link's **Analytics** view, pick a **Timeframe** for the date range, then add one or more filters such as **Event/Conversion, Country, Source, Device, Platform, Browser,** or **Language**. You can also click a row in the **Campaign** breakdown to filter by a UTM value. Combine filters to isolate precise cohorts (e.g., "Checkout completed" in **Canada** on **Firefox**).

<Tip>
  **Filters and analytics history over 30 days** are available on [paid plans](/account-billing-security/plans-and-limits/plans-and-limits).
</Tip>

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the link's Analytics">
    From your link, go to [**Analytics**](/analytics/link-level-analytics/link-level-metrics) to view its performance (clicks, scans, events).

    ***
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the date range">
    In **Timeframe**, choose a preset (e.g., last 7/30 days) or a custom range.

    Charts and tables update immediately.

    ***
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add segmentation filters">
    Use the filter drawer to refine by [**Event/Conversion**](/key-concepts/events-and-conversions-overview), **Country, Source, Device, Platform, Browser, and Language**.

    ***
  </Step>

  <Step title="Combine filters to isolate a cohort">
    Apply multiple filters at once (e.g., Country: Canada + Browser: Firefox) to drill down to a cohort.

    ***
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the breakdowns">
    Switch the breakdown tabs (e.g., **Sources**, **Countries**, **Devices**, **Browsers**, **Platforms**, **Languages**, **Campaign**, **Timeframe**) to see where traffic and conversions come from.

  <Step title="Adjust or clear">
    Remove any active filter to broaden results.

    Re-apply as needed to compare cohorts.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Notes & tips

* Seeing "Direct" as a source is normal when referrer data is missing (e.g., private apps/DMs).
* Click any row in the **Campaign** breakdown to filter the whole dashboard by that UTM value. The active filter appears as a chip in the filters bar. See [How to view UTM campaign breakdowns in ShortPen Analytics](/analytics/link-level-analytics/utm-campaign-analytics).
* If a table looks short on Free plan, that's expected. The full dataset appears on paid plans.
* For workspace-wide segmentation by [folder/tag](/analytics/workspace-level-analytics/workspace-segmentation), use [workspace analytics](/analytics/workspace-level-analytics/workspace-level-metrics) instead.
